Ayanda Mabulu was born in King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape on 4 October 1981. Encouraged from a young age, Ayanda was given tasks involving drawing which he thoroughly enjoyed. From Grade 4 onwards he knew that that was the only thing he really wanted to do. When he finished school he got involved in community projects where he picked up a few of the basic techniques of painting and thereafter developed a unique style of his own.
